Graphic Design for Diverse Communities
This class was designed for fine arts majors interested in the fundamental principals and techniques of graphic design within social and culturally diverse contexts. In this course, graphic design is framed not only as a communication practice, but also as a social and cultural practice. Students executed two major studio projects. The first project was in collaboration with La Cocina Food-Business incubator where student-groups were paired with diverse individuals from La Cocina in an effort to create designs that reflected the personal stories and cultural diversity of their products. The second project consisted of choosing either a health, social or environmental cause and designing a new way to engage with intended audiences.
